Além do tempo severo generalizado, houve chuva intensa em partes do centro e norte do RS entre os dias 3 e 4/09. Algumas cidades registraram enchentes significativas, principalmente no centro do RS.
O intenso cavado em médios níveis que favoreceu a sequência de tempo severo e chuva intensa é impressionante pela localização em latitudes bastante baixas (vou utilizar 0600 UTC do dia 04 como exemplo.. Não é muito comum ver um cavado anômalo que se estende até o sul da Bolívia e se move para leste. Geralmente os cavados migratórios que se movem para leste ocorrem mais a sul. Além disso, o cavado tem um eixo bastante acentuado, ou seja, não é um cavado “suave”. Isso gera um jato bastante meridional (mais abaixo), favorecendo levantamento mais intenso na dianteira do cavado. As duas cristas anômalas corrente acima e corrente abaixo do cavado possivelmente tiveram um papel importante neste caso.
Com isso, houve escoamento muito intenso em baixos níveis na dianteira do cavado e amplo transporte de umidade em direção ao Sul do Brasil. O escoamento em 700 hPa, por exemplo, estava acima de 50 kt na madrugada do dia 04 (abaixo). Chama a atenção também a enorme área com vento > 50 kt. O jato de baixos níveis também era bastante profundo, o que causou eficiente transporte de umidade. Como exemplo, o transporte de vapor d’água integrado (abaixo) estava bastante intenso.
Como resultado desta situação “anomalamente dinâmica” e o amplo transporte de umidade, o ambiente onde ocorreu chuva intensa era caracterizado por anomalias de água precipitável perto de 3 desvios padrão.
O levantamento era bastante intenso na saída do jato de baixos níveis, conforme mostrado em contornos azuis no campo de vento em 700 hPa e água precipitável mais acima. Além disso, o levantamento também era favorecido pelo jato de altos níveis, cuja entrada equatorial, onde ocorrem circulações ageostróficas favoráveis a movimento ascendente, se posicionava sobre a região.
O ambiente bastante úmido, o levantamento intenso associado ao cavado + advecção quente na saída do jato de baixos níveis, e a presença de CAPE favorável a tempestades convectivas, causaram altas taxas de precipitação.
Um tópico interessante para pesquisa é a relação do formato do cavado em médios níveis com as condições de tempo corrente abaixo. Este caso é um tanto atípico, pois o cavado estava bastante a norte e era bem acentuado. Quão comum é este tipo de cavado? Esta configuração está sempre associada a maior potencial de eventos extremos (tempo severo e chuva intensa), ou este caso representou uma improvável combinação de fatores?
